Food Not Bombs Hobart loves working alongside other community groups to bring people together through food, creativity, learning, and mutual aid.
Our Co-Hosting program allows community organisations, grassroots projects, and local initiatives to host an event with our support. We provide the structure, event coordination, equipment, supplies, and practical assistance needed to help make an idea happen.
A key part of this program is recognising and valuing the active role that Food Not Bombs Hobart community members play in making events successful. Many of our members bring lived experience as service users, people experiencing homelessness, or rough sleepers, and their knowledge, skills, and agency are central to how our events operate. Rather than being passive participants, members are encouraged and supported to help plan, organise, host, and provide hospitality and food service for diners attending Food Not Bombs Hobart events.
Whether it’s a community meal, workshop, discussion, creative gathering, or special project, co-hosted events create opportunities for members and partner groups to work together in meaningful ways. This includes welcoming guests, preparing and serving food, assisting with logistics, sharing skills, and helping shape the atmosphere and direction of the event. Our goal is to make it easier for groups to focus on their purpose while also creating opportunities for community members to contribute, participate, and be recognised for the value they bring.
Some examples include collaborations such as Broke Ass Brunch and Danielle’s The Bloom Project, where shared values, community participation, and member-led hospitality created welcoming and meaningful experiences for everyone involved.
Co-Hosting is about partnership. We believe great community events happen when people bring their skills, ideas, passions, and lived experience together. By sharing resources and working cooperatively, we can create inclusive spaces that strengthen connections, build community resilience, and recognise the leadership and contributions of those most directly affected by social and economic hardship.
If your group has an idea for an event and would like to explore a partnership, we’d love to hear from you.
Together, we can create opportunities for people to gather, share, learn, support one another, and actively contribute to community life.
