Sometimes kindness begins with a simple message.
At Food Not Bombs Hobart, our Rapid Kindness Network is designed to respond quickly when someone reaches out for food support. A text, email, phone call, or referral can be the start of a practical and caring response.
When a request comes in, we do our best to organise food as soon as possible. Using our van, volunteers can travel to a location that works for the person requesting support. We might meet someone in a public place, exchange food at an agreed destination, drop supplies off, or simply take a few minutes to chat.
The immediate goal is straightforward: make sure people have access to food when they need it.
At the same time, we recognise that every person has their own circumstances, strengths, and preferences. Some people simply want a food drop-off and that’s perfectly okay. Others may be looking for connection, information, or someone willing to listen.
We are open to building relationships when people want that. Our approach is based on respect, dignity, and mutual aid rather than judgement or pressure. We believe support works best when people remain in control of their own decisions.
This is the heart of the Rapid Kindness Network. Food relief may be the first reason for contact, but kindness creates space for connection, trust, and community.
Sometimes a meal solves an immediate problem.
Sometimes a conversation makes a difficult day easier.
Sometimes knowing that someone will respond quickly and show up when needed can make all the difference.
